This property is located in (the) Rotterdam City Center. Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. The port of Rotterdam, situated along the Nieuwe Maas in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse rivers, is the largest in Europe. Much of Rotterdam is up to six meters below sea level.
The center of Rotterdam was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. After the war the center of town was rebuilt; architecture in Rotterdam is therefore mainly modern. The high-rise buildings in the center are quite unique for The Netherlands; most of these buildings have different kinds of architectural details.
The center consists of three borderlines; Central Station is situated at one extreme. Within 5 minutes walking distance there is a large shopping area. Apart from shops, most theaters, bars restaurants and museums are concentrated here. The other side of the center is marked by the Saint Laurens cathedral. The Meusse (Maas) river borders the center on the southern side.
The Erasmus bridge crosses the river to the renowned Kop van Zuid, a redeveloped area with a nice mixture of offices, residences and hotels, bars and restaurants. This can be considered to be the most prestigious part of the center.
Rotterdam is currently going through a renaissance, with urban renewal projects featuring ambitious architecture, an increasingly sparkling nightlife, and a host of summer festivals celebrating the city's multicultural population and identity.
